Center for Photography at Woodstock
The Center for Photography at Woodstock is pleased to announce the exhibition New York PARADISE LOST Bushwick Era Disco, featuring photographs by Meryl Meisler, a recipient of CPW’s 2021 Affinity Award.
The exhibition revisits a pivotal time for both New York and the artist, during which Meisler was rarely seen without her trusted camera. We follow Meisler to Manhattan’s celebrity-laced Disco scene and the notorious Studio 54 in the 1970s. We see her engaging with her family or playfully pointing the camera at herself. And continue with her to Bushwick in the 1980s, where she taught in a public school, and where her camera captured a neighborhood in fast-paced transition starting with the view from her classroom.
This exhibition was made possible in part by grants from The Phillip and Edith Leonian Foundation.
